COPA is refocusing its awards program to honour outstanding leaders and committed employees in the office and business products sector. 

After many years of running the only Canadian industry-wide awards program for the office products sector, recognizing marketing campaigns, new and improved products, corporate programs and outstanding individuals, the COPA Awards Program is shifting its focus away from product recognition to people recognition. The COPA Awards Program has been running for nearly 20 years in its current format. 

Moving forward, the Excellence in Leadership Award and Longstanding Service Recognitions will remain COPA’s only award recognitions. The Excellence in Leadership award will be presented to two business leaders in the industry—one dealer and one vendor—who display the leadership qualities outlined in the qualification criteria. The Longstanding Service Recognitions will continue to honour member employees who have been in the industry for 30 years or more.

“With the changing business landscape, we feel now is the time to make this shift,” explained Sam Moncada, COPA president. “Over the past five years, we’ve seen declining participation in the products portion of the program due to shifting priorities for our members and industry. We understand that our members are under huge pressures right now and feel it’s time to make this change.” 

“What we’re actually doing is simply moving in the direction where we’ve seen the most support and excitement from our members.”

This change is part of the revamping of the COPA Stars Gala which has been transformed into a 1.5 day conference and social event. The inaugural COPA Conference “Making Waves” will take place from November 7-8, 2019 at The Westin Toronto Airport. Award recipients will be honoured during the social portion of the event happening at the end of day one. This networking extravaganza, dubbed “A Night at the COPA”, promises to bring excitement and fun for our members and is expected to attract individuals from all organization levels.
