Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for October. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales rose 2.0% in October. The largest increases were in the food, chemical and petroleum and coal product industries.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 60.3%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 94.2%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the October reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.
