Given the rapidly evolving economic situation, Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the wholesale trade sector for August. The advance results for August indicate that wholesale sales rose 0.8%. The increase reflects higher sales in the food, beverage and tobacco subsector.
This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 60.2%. The average final response rate for the survey over the past 12 months has been 86.1%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the August reference month, this early indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than the regular monthly release.

- Food, beverage and tobacco products: +2.3%
- Personal and household goods: -1.1%
- Motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts and accessories: +0.2%
- Building materials and supplies: +1.4%
- Machinery, equipment and supplies: +1.7%
- Miscellaneous goods: +0.4%
